About Chatham Kings
Private youth lessons, the adult and community side of basketball in Chatham-Kent — and the push to bring a semi-pro team to the region.
Chatham Kings is a basketball organisation based in Chatham-Kent, Ontario, Canada. It coaches private and small-group skills lessons for kids ages 8–18, runs men’s and co-ed leagues and drop-in runs for players aged 18 and over, hosts community basketball events, and is campaigning to bring a semi-professional Basketball Super League team to Chatham-Kent.
What we do
We coach private and small-group basketball lessons for kids ages 8–18, built around individual skill development and getting ready for tryouts — rep, travel, or high school.
On the adult side, Chatham-Kent hadn’t had a clear next step once playing days on a team wrap up — organised leagues to keep playing in, community events to rally around, and a team the whole region can get behind. We run refereed adult leagues (men’s and co-ed), casual drop-in runs, and community events, and we’re working to land a Basketball Super League franchise for Chatham-Kent — a goal we’re pursuing openly, with the community’s backing.
Where we fit in the pathway
We think of Chatham-Kent basketball as a pathway. Local house-league and travel programs build the foundation. School teams and group training sharpen serious young players. Chatham Kings adds individual coaching to that picture, and sits at the top of the pathway for adults: the adult game and the semi-pro ambition.
On leagues and travel teams, we don’t compete — we’re independent of and not affiliated with any other local organisation, and we respect what they do. Private lessons are a service we offer directly. Read more on The Vision.
And to be completely clear: Chatham Kings is not starting a rep or travel league, and we are not registering a club program with Ontario Basketball. Our coaching exists to help kids make the teams that already exist.
The semi-pro goal
The Basketball Super League is expanding across Ontario, and Chatham-Kent is a candidate market. A team isn’t confirmed — it’s a goal.
